New Lord Chancellor

Liz Truss has been demoted in Theresa May's post-election re-shuffle, and has been replaced as Lord Chancellor by David Lidington. The LCCSA hopes that, unlike Truss, Lidington will meet the Association soon as Gove did at the start of his tenure.

The LCCSA  are always willing to meet with Ministers and civil servants, offering constructive engagement with the hope of better informing then on issues of criminal law, justice and access to justice.
The new Lord Chancellor inherits a CJS in crisis due to the extreme cuts to the MoJ budget .Whether he will show any greater willingness to resist further Treasury driven cuts is the key question.
LCCSA President Greg Powell says "Defence lawyers now await the response to consultation on PPE capping and S.38 pay rates , a response which will certainly tell us the direction of travel. Lets hope it is not into the abyss..."
