MSPs get serious over crime plan

Moves to crack down on serious crime are expected to spark a political row over the powers of Holyrood.

MSPs are set to give consent for Westminster to legislate on the Serious Organised Crime and Police Bill. It will establish a new UK-wide FBI-style agency, increase witness protection and extend regulation of the private security industry to Scotland.
A rebellion by some MSPs seems unlikely after plans for a new offence of Royal trespass in Scotland were dropped.
