The Crown could adduce evidence at trial of a suspect's admission under s.172 Road Traffic Act 1988 because it did not of itself breach the privilege against self-incrimination under Art.6 European Convention on Human Rights. The Convention granted a graduation of rights that depended on the seriousness of the criminal charge or the circumstances of the case.
