Reliance, the private escort and security firm which has attracted highly negative publicity after a series of blunders involving the mistaken release of prisoners, claimed last night that it had overcome the "teething problems" that had marred its reputation since taking over court escort duties in Scotland earlier this year.

The company[base ']s optimism about its abilities followed an announcement that its pre-tax profits, across its UK operations, had risen 13 per cent to £6.8m during the six months to October 29.
