The Coroner's Court had the power, without statutory authority, to put in place a procedure governing the grant of anonymity and screening for witnesses appearing at inquests. Under such a procedure, it was neither fundamentally unfair, nor inconsistent with the decision in Al-Rawi v Security Service [2011] UKSC 34, [2012] 1 A.C. 531, for confidential material to be received and seen only by the coroner and not by the next of kin.
