Magistrates had been entitled to admit and rely on information contained in a police intelligence system when identifying an individual as the perpetrator of an assault. They had been entitled to conclude that, in accordance with the Criminal Justice Act 2003 s.117(2)(b), the unknown person who had supplied the relevant information to the intelligence system had personal knowledge of the information they had provided such that it could be admitted and relied upon.
