Consultation on Independent Peer Review of legal advice and legal work

The Legal Services Commission has commenced consultation on Independent Peer Review.

The paper details how Independent Peer Review:

  • Will be utilised as an appropriate assessment of quality of advice and legal work
  • Will provide one of the key quality measure for the LSC's future supplier management strategy
  • The use of Peer Review as an audit tool demonstrates the LSC's commitment to ensuring that clients receive high quality legal services.

It also comes as recognition of feedback received from practitioners over a number of years which has indicated that the most appropriate assessment of quality of advice is an independent evaluation by experienced peers.

The closing date for this consultation is 25 June 2005 and responses are welcome from individual practitioners as well as professional bodies.
