Yesterday, David Cameron convened the first UK Girl Summit - aimed at ending female genital mutilation (FGM), and child and forced marriage. This important event, addressing some of the most serious rights violations inflicted on young women today, follows the publication earlier this month of the long-awaited report on FGM by the Home Affairs Committee (HAC). In it the committee quite correctly describes the UK’s response to the genital cutting of young women and girls as an ‘ongoing national scandal.’
