Blair pledges extra £219m for drug treatment

The prime minister, Tony Blair, today pledged an extra £219m for drug treatment in England and Wales in a bid to address the needs of the most problematic addicts.

The extra investment over the next four years will be targeted on treating the 50,000 most serious drug abusers, including repeat offenders and those with alcohol and mental health problems, according to the Department of Health
