Bill 'fails to protect judicial independence'

A committee of MPs and peers has strongly criticised Lord Falconer's judicial reform Bill for its failure to protect judges from political interference.

The Constitutional Reform Bill, which is supposed to create a Supreme Court and abolish the post of Lord Chancellor, was introduced because ministers believed that reforms were needed to strengthen the independence of the judiciary.
