A recent timeline?of events in the Daily Telegraph about?the 2006 phone hacking investigation made reference to alleged advice given to the police on interpretation of the law. It said: "April 2006: The Crown Prosecution Service points out that for a case to be brought it would be necessary to prove messages were intercepted before they were listened to by the intended recipient."? This reference is not correct. Please find here a letter in which the DPP has set out what legal advice was given to police in 2006.
