For domestic law to properly reflect the prohibition on sex discrimination in the Equal Treatment Directive "the same sex" in the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 s.54(9) and "woman", "man" and "men" in the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 s.1, s.2, s.6 and s.7 had to be read as referring to the acquired gender of a post-operative transsexual who was visually and for all practical purposes indistinguishable from non-transsexual members of that gender.
