So what did happen to those 114 secret files on paedophile cases that the Home Office can't seem to lay its hands on? Yesterday Mark Sedwill, the Home Office's most senior civil servant, appeared before MPs to tell them what he knew. Or rather, what he didn't know. There was a lot more of the latter than the former.
