Flush with their recent victory over the criminal courts charge, magistrates are now gearing up for a fresh challenge. “Just when we thought we could catch breath,” says Malcolm Richardson, who chairs the 19,000-strong Magistrates’ Association, “the Commons justice select committee announced an inquiry into the role of the magistracy.”
