Last year, a Dutch charity called Terre Des Hommes created a new way to trap online predators. It created a fake online child, which then posed in chat rooms as a 10-year-old Filipino girl. If asked for pictures, operators behind the account had a remarkably life-like computerised avatar. The aim was to patrol the net, attracting men who were looking for children to pay to perform sexual acts via webcam, and then pass their details on to the police. They called the child "Sweetie".
