Shadow justice secretary Sadiq Khan has added his voice to calls for changes to the Human Rights Act, saying that courts should not automatically be bound by judgments of the European Court of Human Rights.

In a newspaper article, he said that the act's phrase that courts 'must take into account' Strasbourg judgments demonstrated that parliament did not intend British judges to be bound.
