The decision of whether a defendant should go into the witness box was one of such potential importance that where it was decided that he should not, then that should be recorded in writing along with a brief summary of reasons for that decision endorsed by the defendant. Although those that had represented the appellant in the instant case had failed to do that, it was evidentially clear that they had been following his instructions in not calling him.
