A sentence of three months' imprisonment was manifestly excessive for a failure to surrender to bail where the defendant had attended his father's funeral ceremonies abroad as a matter of duty and honour but had immediately surrendered on his return to England. A sentence of six weeks' imprisonment was substituted.
