"Police officers around the country will supporting National Personal Safety Day by getting out the community - in schools, youth clubs, on the street, in supermarkets or in homes for the elderly - talking to people about what they can do to prevent themselves becoming a victim of crime.

"Of course, the risk of being a victim of crime cannot be eliminated however careful you are but there are simple things you can do to reduce that risk. Not looking down at your mobile phone while walking, keeping your doors and windows locked when you're out and not using the same, easy to guess password for lots of accounts will all make a difference to your safety."
