Police chiefs call for cooling off period after knife sales

PUBLISHED June 8, 2005

The most senior police officers in Scotland have called for anyone wanting to buy a kitchen knife to have to wait for a "cooling off" period of between three and five days before completing their purchase.

The move comes just a day after two men and a woman were attacked in Glasgow with knives in the latest "happy slapping" incident - in which youths use mobile phones to record assaults on unsuspecting victims.
