Lord Hanningfield, jailed for expenses fraud, wins compensation over arrest in second probe

Lord Hanningfield, 72, sued for compensation over events in September 2011 - days after his release from prison on a tag after serving nine weeks of a nine-month sentence for false accounting.The 70-year-old former frontbencher, who was also leader of Essex County Council, falsely claimed almost £14,000 for overnight accommodation in London, when on most nights he was returning home to his bungalow, less than 50 miles away from the capital.
