ACPO lead on drugs Chief Constable Andy Bliss said:

"This report is encouraging as it shows that, despite concerns that reduced budgets would affect the police's ability to tackle the illegal drug trade, there has been an increase of two per cent in drug seizures from 2010/11.

"In the last year, there has been a greater focus on commercial cannabis cultivation and its links to serious organised crime so we are pleased to see a 14 per cent rise in cannabis plants seizures.

"The police service take the trade in illegal drugs of all varieties very seriously and will continue to work hard with our partners to enforce the law in this area."
