The presentation will be made by Colin Beaumont. Colin is an experienced criminal practitioner. He qualified as a barrister in 1982 and spent 14 years in the court service before re-qualifying as a solicitor in 1996. In that year he joined a major criminal legal aid practice in the Thames Valley area and later became a partner. He is a consultant with that firm and an experienced court and police station duty solicitor. In addition he is an experienced presenter having presented courses to the profession for the last 20 years.
An awful lot has happened over the last 12 months and it is very difficult to keep up with it all. When on earth do you get the time to read all the consultation documents, case-law and the Acts of Parliament. There is never enough time to satisfy the needs of the client and to keep up academically. The purpose of this one hour webinar is to bring you up-to-date with the things of importance that have occurred in the last 12 months. 75 things will be considered and here are simply 12 of them:
Domestic Violence Protection Notices and Domestic Violence Protection Orders (rolled out nationally in March 2014)
The new Schedule under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (came into force in March 2014)
The very latest proposals on the payment of fees to Advocates for Crown Court work
Statutory Instrument 2014 No. 415 and the reduction of litigator fees on the 20th of March
Applying for an Own Client Contract and applying for a Duty Provider Contract-the timetable and contracts available
The Crime and Courts Act 2013 – those sections in force and the important sections to keep an eye on e.g. the new offence of Drug Driving
Eligibility for a Crown Court representation order – all change on the 27th of January 2014
Changes to suspended sentences of imprisonment under the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 (LASPO)
